Hike in Todgha Gorge

We arrived in Todgha Gorge last night to a beautiful hotel that seems like an oasis, literally. Surrounded by rock there is a small river that serves the tiny community including Berber nomads that I had the chance to visit.

The canyon is in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains.

To the top it was a 786 meter gain. Map from my Garmin

We had mint tea with thyme with a local Berber man. He was 74 and lived in a cave in the hillside with his family of 15. They have to walk to the bottom of the gorge each day to collect water with their donkey. Trust me, this is not a walk in the park!

A truly memorable experience that I will cherish. It also reminds me how lucky I am. Being born in Canada is like winning the lottery.
